nialler, nail me?

In the morning I woke up embarrassed about what Kylie had seen last night, it wasn’t that I didn’t want her to see me like that, she was my best friend and I didn’t care. I was embarrassed because I knew that she was right. Hunter would want me to be happy…

I rolled over and checked my iPhone before I had to get ready for the day. the screen showed 11.32am ‘what the hell?’ I thought to myself ‘I set my alarm for 7am… guess I’m not going to uni today.’ I also had four texts, two from ky, one from my mum and one from a number I didn’t recognize.

The two from Kylie read “I changed your alarm, you need a day off! sleep, watch movies, eat!” and “love you xx” I smiled at my amazing best friend and texted back “so sneaky, love ya xxx”

The one from my mum said “Ky texted, she said you’re missing Hunter, we all wish he was still here xx” I replied with “I wish you were here :( x”

The last text from the number I didn’t know turned out to be from Niall. “hey, this is Niall, thnks for last night, we need to go get dinner soon, as friends I swear!”

I smiled to myself and quickly replied “yeah! give me a time and place, I’ll be there x”

I had to keep reminding myself that hunter would want this for me, I liked Niall and surely my only brother wouldn’t have wanted me to be unhappy. I got out of bed and headed to my wardrobe, I started planning out outfits in my mind. it was just something I did when to clear my mind. When I’d planned out the next 2 weeks’ outfits and changed for the day I walked in to the lounge room to wait for Kylie to get home.

I’d been watching friends for 10 minutes when Niall texted me. “free tonight? x”

I bit my lip and quickly texted Ky “Niall texted, he wants dinner tonight, am I free?” Kylie replied before I even had time to put my phone down “hellllllll yes girl, go for it!”

I laughed at Kylie’s language and typed a reply to Niall “tonight would be lovely!” He told me that he would pick me up at 7 and we would go for dinner at his favourite restaurant.

I was sitting on the couch anxiously waiting when there was a knock at the door. Kylie shot me a look and winked at me. I shook my head and got up to answer the door, Niall was standing there and I had to admit he looked so attractive in his white polo and brown jeans. His hair was styled but messy.

“Woah,” he breathed in “I know I said friends but what are you doing to me? You look stunning.”

I could feel my cheeks blushing as I said “Thanks…” just at the same Kylie yelled “It’s all for you!”

“And that’s our cue to leave.” I said whilst Niall was laughing at Kylie’s remark. I closed the door on her and we walked to the elevator. Once we were in Niall said “We’re walking to the restaurant, I hope that’s alright?” I looked at Niall and said “It’s fine, I like walking.”

‘Thank god I wore flats’ I thought it in my mind. Niall asked me a lot of questions on our walk to the restaurant, which ended up being a cute family owned burger shack.

“Thanks for coming, I had the best time!” Niall told me as we walked up to the door of my apartment. “It’s no problem, I had fun too.” We weren’t really talking and I thought that’d be awkward but it wasn’t. Niall had a way of being able to make everything less awkward.

We were looking at each other for a couple seconds before Niall said “I’m sorry, I just have to do this” as he slowly put his hands on either side of my face and quickly moved in to kiss me before I could stop him. The kiss was sweet at first with Niall just testing the waters, but as he realised that I wasn’t pushing away, he ran his tongue along my bottom lip, hesitantly I slowly parted my mouth but that’s all it took for Niall to start kissing me so passionately that I was getting hot already. I took that as my cue to push Niall away. I kissed him on the cheek before quickly retreating to my apartment.

It was around 3am when we realized how late it had gotten and Niall said “I have to be up at 7 to go to the studio, I should probably get going.” I gave him a disgusted look “That is too early to function, but it is getting late…” Niall laughed and looked at me for a little while. “What?” I asked. “Nothing…” he shook his head. “Can you tell me when we’ll be able to see each other again? Maybe we could go out for dinner tomorrow night?” I played with my thumbs and said “Niall, I really want to be friends with you, but nothing more than that.”

Niall tried to hide his disappointment. “Can I ask why not?” The conversation was making me uncomfortable so I walked to the door and said “I just don’t, see you.” Niall walked as he said “Yeah, see you.”

I closed to door and sighed. I had about 10 seconds to myself before Kylie ran out of her bedroom screaming “It’s 3am, what on earth were you talking about for so long?” I ran over to her and covered her mouth “Can you not be so loud, he’s probably still at the door!” We both laughed before I continued, “I don’t know, he just listens really well and tells me things about himself too.”

“Ugh, so cute!” Kylie yelled. “I’m just so happy! After all of your waiting, I’m so glad you finally have someone worthy.” I looked at her and frowned “It wasn’t waiting. I don’t want to date, we’re not dating!” I denied. “We’re just friends and that’s how its staying.”

Kylie yawned as she returned to her bedroom, “Whatever, I’m tired. I give you a month tops before you’re dating. There’s no way you’ll be able to resist his charm for too long.” I watched my best friend return to her room and then collapsed on my couch and wondered to myself if I would succumb to his charms. I decided to go to my room and look at my memory box to refresh myself as to why I didn’t date.

I pulled down the small black box from the back of my wardrobe and looked at photos of my brother and I. I couldn’t help it as I started crying, holding photos of the two of us when we were young kids. Kylie must have heard my crying because she walked in and just held me whilst the tears fell down my face. After ten minutes she guided me to my bed and tucked me in. “You can’t live your life alone forever, that’s not what Hunter would want.” I shivered at the mention of my brothers name and turned with my back facing to Kylie so she would let herself out.
